Gujrat sights to become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

Gujrat government introduced the Gujarat semiconductor policy to generate over 200,000 employment opportunities in semiconductor manufacturing

Gujarat, with its sights set on becoming a global hub for electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) and semiconductor production, has taken a first step. It has introduced special policies for electronics manufacturing (2022-28) and semiconductor manufacturing (2022-27), making it the first state in India to do so, aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission.

The Gujarat semiconductor policy is geared towards positioning the state as a key player in the semiconductor arena, recognizing the critical role of semiconductor chips, particularly in defense and telecommunications. The ambitious goal is to generate over 200,000 employment opportunities in the next five years. The entry of Micron Technologies into Gujarat is viewed as a key development in the state's progress in this sector.

With investor interest on the rise, and in anticipation of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has been proactive in organizing various delegation visits, international roadshows, and domestic roadshows.

These initiatives serve a dual purpose – showcasing the state's potential to industry leaders and organizations while providing a unique platform for discussions on potential opportunities available in Gujarat. The outreach efforts have touched base with over 1000 companies through international and national roadshows and delegation visits ahead of VGGS 2024.

These engagements have been instrumental in promoting strategic partnerships that align with Gujarat's development vision and contribute to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Notable companies from Japan, South Korea, and India, particularly from New Delhi and Bengaluru, have expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in the region.

Their enthusiasm extends to research & development in semiconductor industries, assembly testing, packaging, and the manufacturing of critical components essential for the semiconductor industry.

On the national front, companies like Seoul Semiconductors, V-Guard, LAM Research, Dell Technologies, Marvel Technologies, and NXP Semiconductors have shown significant interest.

Follow-up discussions with various international and national companies are currently underway, exploring the establishment of additional large-scale projects in Gujarat.

The focused approach of the Gujarat government towards strategic sectors like semiconductors and electronics manufacturing is poised to play a crucial role in the global realignment of supply chains, elevating India's economic position on the world stage.

Exciting times lie ahead as Gujarat emerges as a key player in shaping the future of semiconductor technology.
