How much money this Cricket World Cup make?

The Indian team wasn't able to win the World Cup but BCCI made a lot of money by hosting the World Cup.

Last night, India didn't win the ICC Cricket World Cup against Australia, which was undoubtedly a heartbreaking moment for us, the Indian cricket fans.

But if we look at the money side of things, this Cricket World Cup has been the most successful one ever.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) made a big deal by selling the rights to show the games globally to Disney Star for a massive $1.4 billion (₹11,200 crore) for five years. In India, STAR Sports got the rights for TV, and Hotstar got the rights for streaming online. Hotstar let people watch for free and registered a record-high concurrent viewership of 5.8 Cr viewers during the final.

Sponsorships also brought in a lot of money. The ICC made about $150 million (₹1,200 crore) from different sponsors – they had three levels of sponsors and a total of 20 official sponsors.

Disney Star is going to make ₹2,000 crore from ads shown during the matches. A 10-second ad during the games costs about ₹30 lakhs for advertisers. Ticket sales also added a bunch of money. The ICC sold about 20 lakh tickets, and they expect to make between ₹1,600-2,200 crore from ticket sales.

Earlier this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got a deal where they will get 38.5% of the money the ICC makes over the next 5 years. This is because India brings in about 85% of all the people who watch international cricket.

Apart from all this,

the Cricket World Cup is also helping India's economy in other ways. People are buying team merchandise, and tourists from India and other countries are spending money on hotels, food, and more.

A report from the Bank of Baroda says that all these things combined will add between ₹18,000-22,000 crore to India's economy. This makes it the most financially successful Cricket World Cup ever.

Even though losing hurts a lot, it's important to remember that the Indian cricket team did their best.

Let's hope they win in the next tournament!

Until then…
