India boosting its defence game

The government is set to spend Rs.1.4 lakh crore to boost the defence sector.

India is gearing up for some seriously epic defense projects. Imagine a slick new aircraft carrier, 97 extra Tejas fighters, and a crew of 156 Prachand light combat helicopters. They all are going to be manufactured under three mega projects of government.

Big weapons cost big.

And for these three projects, the government is estimated to spend around Rs 1.4 lakh crore. The Defence minister, Rajnath Singh, is set to give the green light for these projects on November 30. Once that's a done deal, they'll dive into the nitty-gritty - negotiations and the final stamp of approval from the big shots at the cabinet committee on security.

Let's break it down.

First in line, we've got 97 Tejas Mark-1A fighters, clocking in at about Rs 55,000 crore. These bad boys are essential for boosting up the Indian Air Force, especially when dealing with big players like China and Pakistan. The first batch is set to hit the skies between February 2024 and February 2028.

Also, a brand-spanking new indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC-2) is in the works. It's like a high-tech floating fortress being crafted at the Cochin Shipyard, and it's going to set us back around Rs 40,000 crore. Super cool, right? This one's the sequel to the INS Vikrant, and it's going to take a bit to complete.

But there's more - we've got 156 Prachand helicopters joining the squad. These mean machines, costing about Rs 45,000 crore, are all about high-altitude action in places like Siachen Glacier and eastern Ladakh. They're packing serious firepower with 20mm turret guns, 70mm rocket systems, and air-to-air missiles. The need for these beasts was felt way back in the 1999 Kargil conflict.

Now, why all this?

Well, it's about amping up India's defense game in the face of China's moves. While China's got a couple of aircraft carriers, we're making sure we're not just keeping up but leaving them in the dust. The United States, of course, has a fleet of supercarriers. Our defense plans are all about proving we're strong and should be taken seriously. Get ready for a show of our might!
