Prime Video: The new player in sports content streaming game.
Amazon Prime Video has expanded into sports content with the launch of FanCode on Prime Video Channels, its content aggregator.
Amazon Prime Video has expanded into sports content with the launch of FanCode on Prime Video Channels, its content aggregator.
Prime members can now buy an annual add-on subscription to FanCode for ₹249.
In 2021 Amazon Prime Video became a content aggregator in India with the launch of Prime Video Channels, which bring other subscription-driven video-on-demand platforms to its app and website. FanCode is the newly added and sports-driven platform, they already have Discovery+, Lionsgate Play, Docubay, Eros Now, MUBI, Hoichoi, Manorama Max, Shorts TV, etc. as their channels.
FanCode has exclusive partnerships with ICC Pathways, Cricket West Indies, EFL, CONMEBOL, Volleyball World, FIBA, and others.
In the four years since its launch, FanCode has streamed more than 45,000 hours of live sports content. With over 100 Mn users, the platform offers interactive live streaming in industry-first subscription formats with Match, Bundle, and Tour Passes, along with monthly and annual subscriptions at affordable prices.
Through its partnership, Fancode will offer access to both domestic and international sports events. It will offer over 15 sports, including cricket, football, rugby, kabaddi, basketball, and horse racing, to sports fans in India.
On the platform, Subscribers will be able to watch Carabao Cup, Women’s Big Bash League, FIFA U17 World Cup, Barclays Women’s Super League, AFC Champions League, AFC Cup, and Yuva Kabaddi, among other sports.
While commenting on the development, Prime Video Channel’s head Vivek Srivastava said, “We are certain that the diversity in programming, and the convenience of enjoying all their favorite sports at a single destination, will delight sport lovers across the country. The addition of FanCode to Prime Video Channels also allows us to offer a comprehensive bouquet of entertainment, from international and local language content to kids-focussed and now live sports.”
Commenting on the partnership, FanCode’s cofounder Colaco said that the platform wants to reach every sports fan across the country and this association with Prime Video is a step in that direction.
Hotstar and Jio Cinema are currently the biggest OTT platform in India for sports streaming. It will be interesting to see how competition evolves with the entry of Amazon Prime Video.
