The Indian electronics market is creating its dominance globally. From April to October, India exported electronics worth $15.48 billion, marking a 27.7% increase from the $12.1 billion recorded during the same period last year.
Electronics, which used to be in the 11th position in exports, is now in sixth place this year, surpassing exports of medicines and cotton-related products. At this growth rate, there's a possibility that by the year's end, electronics could secure the fourth or fifth spot.
The increase in mobile phone manufacturing in India is a key reason for this growth. Out of the additional $3.4 billion compared to last year, $3 billion came from increased sales of mobile phones to other countries.
And guess what? Most of that was because of iPhones. They made up $5 billion, which is one-third of all the electronics India sold abroad.
The collective exports of mobile phones skyrocketed by 60% to reach $8 billion during these seven months. And those iPhones? They've already matched what India exported in the whole year before this!
Why is all this happening?
Well, a big reason is that the government has some schemes that attract big companies like Apple, Samsung, and Foxconn. They're bringing their businesses to India, along with some Indian brands.
The government wants to sell even more smartphones and electronics to other countries. To do that, they're planning to make it easier to move things across borders and look at things like taxes, processes, automation, and storing stuff.
India is not just a consumer anymore; it's becoming a significant global seller. The government sees a massive opportunity to enhance exports and enable rapid growth.
With the festive season on the horizon, these exports are anticipated to experience even greater growth. We eagerly await the data for the upcoming months to gauge the continued success of India's electronics exports.
